Surface Finishing

Refers to the process of modifying the surface of a material to improve its appearance, durability, or functionality. It involves applying various techniques and treatments to alter the surface properties of the material, such as texture, color, reflectivity, and corrosion resistance.

Quality Surface Finishing Services

Surface finishing is crucial for achieving a consistent and flawless appearance in components, especially for prototypes requiring cosmetic precision. Designers often seek post-treatment finishing to match prototypes with their intended design, ensuring customer satisfaction.

NICE Rapid specializes in rapid prototyping and tooling services and offers a range of finishing options such as anodizing, plating, vapor polishing, pad printing, and painting. Feel free to reach out to us for your finishing needs. We’re here to help!

Anodizing

What is Anodizing

Anodizing is an electrochemical process used to treat aluminum components, resulting in the formation of an anodized coating that offers protective, decorative, and functional properties. During the process, aluminum parts act as the anode in a circuit, immersed in an electrolyte acid bath, allowing electricity and acid to interact and enhance the texture and crystal structure of the surface. This leads to the formation of a thicker, more durable oxide layer with improved properties.

Materials

Anodizing is widely used in aluminum alloys, which improves corrosion and wear resistance.

Vapor Polishing

What is Vapor Polishing

Vapor polishing is a method that utilize vapor to polish plastics, which reducing the surface roughness or improve clarity. This method of polishing is used to get an optical quality finish effect from non-transparent plastic. Such as lens or windows that require an lightweight optical quality, vapor polishing is the fast and best way to achieve optimal transparency.

Materials

Some plastics are repsond well to vapor polishing:

  • Polycarbonate
  • Acrylic(PMMA)
  • ABS(acrylonitirle butadiens styrene)
  • Polusulfone
  • PEI

Pad Printing

What is Pad Printing

Pad printing is a versatile printing process used to transfer inked images or designs onto three-dimensional surfaces. It involves using a silicone pad to pick up ink from a etched plate (cliché) and then transferring it onto the target surface. The pad conforms to the shape of the object being printed on, allowing for precise and consistent printing on irregularly shaped or textured surfaces.

Pad Printing Application

Pad printing is a very popular printing process to transfer the logo. It is used in a variety of printing appliances.

  • Electrical Applicances: TV, VCR, Computer, Toaster
  • Medical Applicances: Surgical Instruments, Catheters, Contact Lenses, Implants
  • Sports Appliances: Tennis Rackets, Golf balls, Footballs
  • Toys: Hot Wheets, Logos, Dolls, Cars
  • Household Applicances: Dishwasher, Washing Machines, Microwave

Sandblasting

What is Sandblasting

Sandblasting, also called abrasive blasting, is a generic term for the process of smoothing, shaping and cleaning a hard surface by forcing solid sandy particles across that surface at high speeds. Some raw sandy particles including copper ore, quartz sand, emery sand, iron sand and Hainan sand.

Type of Sandblasting

There are lots of types in sandblasting, such as wet sandblasting, vapor blasting, bead blasting, wheel blasting, vacuum blasting and so on.

The common type we can offer is bead blasting. Bead blasting is used to clean calcium deposits from pool tiles or any other surfaces, remove embedded fungus, and brighten grout color. Usually, the parts can get a nice appearance after bead blasting.

Painting

What is Painting

Paint is a kind of surface coating process for industries products, it includes plastic painting, silk screen and pad painting process. The layer of coating is a liquid paint through natural air or baking.

Liquid paints are ideal for situations where a specific color is needed, where the coating needs to be smooth, or there is a lot of color variation. According to different requirement of glossiness, we can provide gloss, semi-matt and matt painted surface.

Type Description Picture
Gloss Painted Good reflective effect, high anti – luminosity, clean andclear surface bright. Gloss Painted
Semi-matte Painted Between gloss and matt painte. Semi-matte Painted
Matte Painted Low reflection rate, color and lustre is softer. Matt Painted
